Too many people make the mistake of trying to save a few dollars by skipping the call to the towing services company and driving their vehicle to the mechanic on their own. If you simply need an oil change or a sensor switched out, that might not be a problem. However, if you are taking your vehicle to the auto mechanic for any of the following reasons, you will need to have it towed there.

The Engine Is Overheating

This is a very serious problem and it is something that can be caused by a few different issues. Regardless of what is causing the problem, you will need to have your vehicle towed to the shop. You cannot put the engine through any more strain by allowing it to become excessively hot, even for the shortest of distances. If you allow the engine to become overheated, you run the risk of completely destroying it. Then, instead of just making a repair to the part causing the overheating, your mechanic will need to do that along with completely replacing your engine.

The Brakes Are Bad

Whether your brakes are bad because the pads are worn out or because your car is leaking a lot of brake fluid, it is best to simply have it towed to the mechanic, who will correct the problem. The reason for this is that you never know when this bad situation will take a turn for the worse. A problem with a hole in the brake line could turn into a completely broken line, resulting in the spilling of all of your brake fluid and the inability to stop your vehicle at all. Worn-out brake pads can cause problems with being able to stop quickly should someone or something jump out in front of your vehicle.

The Tie-Rod Is Worn Out

The tie-rod is a very vital piece of your vehicle. If it completely breaks, the tire that it is connected to will literally fall to the side, and you will lose complete control of your vehicle. You could end up over a hillside or in oncoming traffic. Therefore, if you have been informed that one or more of the tie-rods on your vehicle are wearing out and you need to have them replaced, you will need to tow your vehicle. Do not risk your life or the life of anyone else by continuing to drive it until the parts are properly replaced.
